Hi there,
Let's talk about something that caused quite a stir over the past few weeks/month. Even today, we keep encountering discussions about it and reading about how bad it is, with certain players quitting because of it (even though they continue to play daily, strange?). There have been many such "controversial" decisions on the portal over the years. Many of you surely remember the time when killing started to be restricted. And who today remembers that it used to be normal to kill a hundred players in a row without being kicked? Hardly anyone. My point is, even though we, players, might dislike many things, we eventually get used to and adapt to the changes. First, I must say this is just my personal view and my opinions, I do not speak for the admin team or other players.
But what wasn't there before? The possibility to express and discuss, at least according to many. So, I'm giving you a chance, let's discuss in the comments under this post, let's argue and share our opinions on this update. And who knows, if something constructive comes out of it, maybe we'll see changes that will satisfy you. So:
Is it really a good idea to gradually unlock certain jobs and require experience from other jobs? We can also discuss the necessity of having driving licenses.“For some jobs, you now need driving, boating, piloting, or weapons licenses - see /jobs.
For some jobs, you now need to complete experience in another job to unlock it, more info in /jobs.”It's probably unnecessary to elaborate further because the description and server experience make it clear. But let's briefly go over it. For jobs, it is necessary to own driving licenses, which you get from driving schools - for some, it's a simple thing and a quick process, for others, it's constant repetition due to breaking traffic rules. Is it hard to complete? I can't judge, I didn't manage on my first try, but I did on my second when I followed the NPC in front of me. Is it time-consuming? Yes, but why not slow down for a while? During actual driving lessons, I also keep my hands on the wheel and constantly check the mirrors because of the instructor, even though no one drives that "crazy cautious" in real life. And yes, you could argue that the "reality" argument doesn't make sense in a game where we kill each other on daily basis, or as one clever user told me, where a police officer arrests with ALT without making the player step out and handcuffing them (I don't know how they'd do it in Pawn or Lua, but they might have a point?). I agree, but it can be viewed from different perspectives, and I'm not presenting it as an argument, just as an example of my approach to the matter. Similarly, I could argue other ways to make players do something different than constantly repeating the same actions. But I'll get to that later.
Jobs and the need for experience is another tricky topic, certainly more discussed than licenses. We have complaints that it doesn't make sense to unlock a police officer only after gaining experience as a security worker. Or that it doesn't make sense to need a cleaner to become a garbage collector (although this makes perfect sense to me). Personally, it doesn't bother me because a player who has been playing on the server for years should have some of these jobs completed - but I won't be a hypocrite and admit that I played when you could buy some initial experience in the game store (I think it was 2010, boomer alert) - this couldn't work for newer jobs, of course, just like on other servers. And the positives for me? Definitely the fact that less-used jobs (or maybe absolutely unused jobs) now get players tasked to try them, and they might end up liking them. If a player never tries a job and nothing forces them to, they can't actually find out if they'd enjoy it. And I can say that I've personally taken a liking to the lawn mowing tractor and use it to take down gangsters. When I go back to the point above, the same applies to licenses. There are players who only drive cars and never get on a motorcycle or into a truck, now they're "forced" to at least try it.
The number of minimum experiences can, of course, be debated here. We started at 100, after a wave of criticism it was reduced to 50. 50 experiences in a job is a matter of an hour, but I understand that for a newbie or a player who plays a few hours a month, it can be painful. However, I mostly see complaints from players who spend 10 hours or more in-game every day. Don't tell me it's such a big problem to make a few rounds on the tractor or sweeper. Although I can understand the argument, my personal opinion is that we players are reluctant to change, we like our comfort, the fact that we do the CEO job and complete things in BP (where suddenly no one minds completing jobs, right?). Is it such a problem today to play just for fun, and not automatically because I want to get something in BP or for tokens from a contest? Then there's the thought, did the contests for tokens ruined the magic of exploring jobs and features without expecting a reward (except for dollars, of course)? But we'd be here until tomorrow, so maybe some other time.
Should we talk about further reductions? Or are 50 experiences adequate for you?
Lets express your disagreement. It's not true, even though certain people try to convince players otherwise, that someone gets banned for their opinion. I've mentioned it several times on streams, it really depends on how you present your opinion. There's a difference between "
this is cr*p, admins are id**ts and this one behaves like *insert name of a famous Austrian painter*" and "
I disagree with the update, for me it's too time-consuming and personally I don't like it because ...". And as you know, I'm the last person who would censor you, I always communicate with everyone without distinction and have no problem sharing my, sometimes very unpopular, opinions. It's better to discuss such updates some time after they are implemented, so players and AT members have a chance to form their own opinion and maybe try out the new system. That's why now.
So let's discuss!
Everything other than that is good and perfect. It makes us more interesting and more curiosity for new players about those jobs and server. It will definitely increase their curiosity and intrest.
The game that has made for adults become childhood game of many peoples
Thank you for that. You have covered almost complaints of players, and therefore answered them. Good job and keep it up!
