This post will be about recent events regarding robbing train crates. This feature is fairly new to me since it was added when I was inactive. I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed at all. The loot from the crates was astounding and this turned out to be a very lucrative business, so I considered it a worthwhile activity. Stealing train crates is a great way to earn hefty amounts of money. Certainly more worthwhile than driving that damn bus, right?

I was completely new to this feature though, so I had a significant disadvantage compared to other train robbers. Thus I needed to know more about how this feature works. I found out a couple of things. For example, once crates are stolen it takes approximately 5 minutes for new crates to spawn. Furthermore, crates do not respawn if a player is nearby, there needs to be sufficient distance between any player and the cargo train for new crates to spawn. Camping on the cargo train is therefore rather pointless.

But most importantly, I wanted to know how long it takes for the train leave a certain station, travel all across San Andreas and stop at the same station again (for example Linden station). It was exactly 14 minutes and 15 seconds. This important detail allowed me to choose a certain station, steal crates once the cargo train arrived, log off and log back in exactly on time when the cargo train would arrive at the same station again. This was my way to steal considerable amounts of crates without having to drive all across San Andreas and evading wanted stars, the chances of being busted were slim because I would always log off instantly after robbing the crates.

Then came another issue, namely the competitors. I was certainly not the only one who thought robbing train crates was a very lucrative business. Occasionally I would log in at a train station and run into another player. Some of them were easy going and offered to split the crates 50% each, to which I usually agreed because it was easier than killing them. I love killing but sometimes it is better to remain pragmatic. Other players were less easy going and left me no other choice than obliterating them, usually with minigun. I did not always manage to collect crates when the freight train stopped at my station. Sometimes the crates were already taken by someone else at the previous train station, and occasionally I was caught off guard by the humble servants of the morally bankrupt junta, also known as the police. Usually I am not online for longer than a minute but those daft ants still managed to catch me a few times, although I also managed to kill the police officers several times and avoid getting busted. However, often things went quite well and after some time, I had collected over 400 crates. This is what my inventory looked like:

Now was the time to sell all of it. I visited the pawn shop and sold my goods (see video below). It was a painful process, my fingers had to go through excruciating pain tapping that space button many, many times. I do not know if my fingers will ever recover from this traumatic experience. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating but it was quite inconvenient for a few minutes. Nevertheless, in the end I walked out with my pockets filled with money. I earned a whopping $33,035,000 from goods that I stole from the cargo train, not even mentioning the drugs and counterfeit chips I stole from crates too, I did not keep track of that though. But overall, the total value stolen from crates should be well over $40,000,000.

Overall, it was an enjoyable activity. In the beginning it was difficult because I did not know how this feature worked exactly. But over time I got the hang of it and I kept perfecting my strategy to make it more effective and time-efficient. There were interactions with other players every now and then, which made it more lively. Some players I made a deal with, some players I killed. In the end I walked away with a huge pile of cash, ready to be spent on Hydra, Hunter, minigun - you name it. And I did not have to drive that damn bus even once.
